Goose down comforters

Goose down comforters

Not all goose down comforters are created equal. If you are considering buying this luxurious bedding that is down filled, read more to help you make the right decision. Believe it or not, the right goose down comforter can make all the difference in how you sleep at night.

If you are looking for goose down instead of duck down you are on the right track as goose fill is of higher quality when it comes to down filled comforters. Be aware, however, of several other things when buying too. It is important to know about the goose down fill itself. You will discover that most down comforters are filled at 500-650 fill which may be sufficient, but you can buy down comforters as high as 800 fill or greater which will provide superior comfort and warmth.

Look also for a comforter that is of pure goose down. Lower end products fill baffles with less than 70% real goose down. So if you are buying a down comforter make sure you are paying for pure goose down. Although it may not be very obvious, it’s nice to know that you are paying for what you wanted. Be sure to read the down comforter packaging thoroughly before making your purchase just to make sure.

The overall design of a down comforter is also important, and the baffle construction is a big part of that. Baffles are enclosed pockets or areas where the down feathers are placed. This area helps enclose the goose down feathers in a small confined area so they do not spread and flatten throughout the comforter. This enables the comforter to provide you with even distribution of warmth and comfort. With a cheaper down comforter of a low thread count you will discover that the goose down feathers will find their way out by poking through and will tend to spread throughout the comforter in return not providing you with maximum coverage. Also, buy comforters made with fabric with a high thread count of 400 or greater to ensure greater quality and durability.

Your goose down bedding is an investment in your comfort so spend a little more for good quality. A good quality goose down filled comforter is not cheap however, but you will be happier in the long run.
